Speech-language pathologists and audiologists are concerned with communication and strive to correct the speech, language, or hearing difficulties that interfere with it. A speech-language pathologist makes non-medical evaluations, examines, counsels, or provides habilitative or rehabilitative services for persons who have or are suspected of having speech, voice, language disorders, oral pharyngeal function, or cognitive processes. An audiologist makes nonmedical evaluations, examines, counsels, dispenses and sells hearing instruments, manages the fittings, or provides habilitative or rehabilitative services for persons who have or are suspected of having hearing disorders, or vestibular function. An audiologist may fit and dispense hearing instruments. An Intern is licensed to practice under supervision while completing the post-master’s degree. An assistant is licensed to only practice under supervision and is very limited. The intern license and the assistant license are issued in either the area of speech-language pathology or the area of audiology. The supervisor shall be licensed in the same professional area.
